<description>I forgot to add a book. Salad Bar Beef by Joel Salatin is a little larger scale than you probably want to go, but is very informative. Joel is a grass beef farmer in the USA.

<description>A lot of information about grasses to grow and how much space per cow are different depending on where you live, how much rainfall you have etc. Quite often the best grasses to have for a cow are the ones that occur on thier own. Looking at the mix of grasses/weeds on the roadside is often a good indication of what will grow in your area. When I was young we had about 2 acres and managed to keep a cow well fed, but we did supplement with good quality hay (it often helps to keep her happy with good hay as you are milking). We lived in a tropical environment with avg rainfall of about 830 mm per year. The main grasses that we had were Green Panic, Buffell, River Couch and a myriad of other forbes /plants as well. Be careful to check that you do not have any poisonous plants in the area that you intend to graze the cow.
Happy grazing
